Fifth-gen iPad battery expected to be 30 per cent smaller

Next-gen 9.7-inch iPad expected to be 25% lighter

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes Apple’s fifth-gen iPad will be substantially lighter and thinner than the current 9.7-inch model.

Kuo states that the next-gen device will measure around 7.5-8.0mm and be 15 per cent thinner than the iPad, and carry a GF2 touch panel and A7X processor, reports AppleInsider.

The GF2 touchscreen will play a big part in slimming down the iPad and help reduce power consumption. Kuo also expects to see a 25 to 30 per cent decrease in battery size.

The next iPad is expected to come with a new A7-series SoC manufactured on Samsung’s 28 nanometer process and launch in August or September.
