LG has confirmed its next-gen Optimus G smartphone will launch in the UK in Q3 2013.
During the firm’s latest press briefing, Won Kim, head of mobile communication for Europe confirmed the device would enter the UK towards the Autumn.
"We are very weak in the UK market but it’s time for us to challenge this most difficult market this year and we must do something in order to establish a footprint in the UK," said Kim.
LG has long stubbled in the smartphone market having failed to release an impact device which can go toe-to-toe with the likes of Samsung and Apple and their flagship devices.
Expected to be named the Optimus G 2, the device will likely face off with the long-rumoured iPhone 5S and Samsung’s recently launched Galaxy S 4 for supremacy in the smartphone market.
Talking to TechRadar, Kim addressed the difficulties that firms currently face in the smartphone market, labelling it as a "two horse race" between Apple and Samsung.
Kim also highlighted the UK market as the world’s most difficult, stating: "We are very weak in the UK market but it’s time for us to challenge this most difficult market this year and we must do something in order to establish a footprint in the UK."
LG will be hoping to turn around its self-labelled "sluggish" start in the smartphone market with the release of its new Optimus G device.
