Company behind the brand to test next properties on tablet devices

Moshi Monsters ditches web browsers for tablets

Mind Candy, the firm behind Moshi Monsters, has stated that it will be testing out its next properties on tablets prior to launching toys, in a move that will see it drop web browsers in favour of tablets.

PCR’s sister title Toy News reports that, having already announced its intention to become "a company that has franchises", Mind Candy’s CEO Michael Acton Smith has confirmed that several are in the works.

Speaking to Toy News at the London Evening Standard Business Connections event, Acton Smith said: “We’ve got multiple new brands progressing. Everything we do will be about family entertainment and will always start on tablet.

"If it’s successful on tablets, then we will make the bigger bounce into toys, cartoons, films and everything else.

"We want to prove that the brand resonates first in the tablet space. We think it’s far smarter to do things that way rather than go all guns blazing with toys."

Online game Moshi Monsters currently has over 70 million users.

When asked if Mind Candy’s next brand is ditching web browsers, Acton Smith confirmed the company will not produce another virtual world on browsers for PCs.

"[Tablets and smartphones] are where children are spending time, so that’s where we’ve got to go," he added.
