Despite initially limiting the device to the US, Amazon is now offering the larger Kindle Fire in additional markets

Amazon to offer 8.9-inch Kindle Fire tablet in the UK

The online-marketplace has announced it is to bring its 8.9-inch Kindle Fire device to the UK.

Amazon initially introduced the Kindle Fire 8.9 five months ago, along with its wider range of Kindle devices – just not to us Brits. The firm claimed it had no plans to offer the device in the UK, limiting its availability to the US.

However, Amazon has since had a change of heart as the tablet is set to land within the UK.

"We’re thrilled with customer reaction to Kindle Fire HD 8.9". Customers tell us they love our large-screen version of Kindle Fire HD for web browsing, email, gaming, watching TV shows, reading magazines, and more," said Dave Limp, VP of Amazon’s Kindle division.

"As we expand Kindle Fire HD 8.9" to Europe and Japan, we’ve been able to increase our production volumes and decrease our costs. Across our business at Amazon, whenever we are able to create cost efficiencies like this, we want to pass the savings along to our customers."

The device, which packs a 8.9-inch screen, front facing camera, ten-hour battery life and access to Amazon’s vast App Store, will carry a price tag of £229 for the 16GB edition and £259 for the 32GB model.

Potential buyers can get their hands on the device from today from Amazon, and retailers including Currys, Tesco and Waterstones.
