Alan Sugar stands down from YouView

Lord Sugar is stepping down from his role as non-executive chairman at YouView.

According to ERT, the Amstrad founder has stated that he feels his work at YouView is done.

“When I joined YouView in 2011, my brief from the shareholders was to use my experience in the electronics industry to get the product to market and into the homes of consumers,” said Sugar.

“Having done that successfully, my job is complete and I will now focus my time and attention on my other businesses. I’d like to thank all those who are part of the YouView project, including its suppliers, staff and shareholders, and I wish them every success for the future.”

This statement puts paid to rumours that his departure is due to a reported bust up with Channel 5 boss Richard Desmond, which saw a heated exchange that ended with Sugar ‘brandishing a clenched fist’ at Desmond who apparently responded by shouting ‘you’re fired!’
