Samsung takes home top mobile awards as Apple is left out in the cold

Global Mobile Awards winners announced; Samsung dominates

The winners of this year’s GSMA 2013 have been announced with Samsung taking the top brass, forcing Apple home empty handed.

Samsung’s rise to success continued at the event as the South Korean firm scored the prestigious Device Manufacturer of the Year prize for the second year running.

Meanwhile, the firm’s Galaxy SIII seemingly took the torch from its predecessor as the device was awarded Best Smartphone, beating out fierce competition from the likes of the iPhone 5, HTC’s Butterfly and the Nokia Lumina 920.

Rounding off an impressive night for the firm, Samsung also took home Best Mobile Enabled Consumer Electronics Device for its Galaxy camera.

Moving onto tablets and Apple’s night grew from bad to worse as the firm was snubbed once again.

Google’s Nexus 7 device was awarded Best Mobile Tablet, sending both of Apple’s newly released iPad and iPad mini packing, whilst chalking up another win for the Android platform.

Apple will no doubt be reeling from the event, which saw all of its new flagship devices fail to secure a nod from the awards’ judging panel.

Software-wise, Facebook claimed the title of Best Mobile App for Consumers whilst Evernote snagged the same award for the enterprise sector.
