iFixit has given the Surface Pro a rock-bottom score of just one out of ten for repairability, making it harder to fix than Apple’s iPad.
In a teardown, iFixit revealed that the screen was held in place by ‘a metric duckload of adhesive’ and the battery is so strongly glued in place that you will most probably need a new back cover if you ever wanted to replace it.
iFixit also uncovered more than 90 screws inside the tablet, 23 of which howd down an internal plastic bezel and 29 holding down two metal side plates.
It seems the Surface is simply not designed to be opened at home. Even the iPad, a notoriously difficult device to repair, earned a score of two out of ten.
“Unless you perform the opening procedure 100 per cent correctly, chances are you’ll shear one of the four cables surrounding the display perimeter,” said iFixit.
So unless you know exactly what you’re doing, it’s probably best not to try this at home, folks.
