KMS Components’ own-brand tablet ranges Versus and CnM are now competing head-to-head with the likes of Apple and Samsung.
Talking to PCR, sales director Steve commented: “Three or four years ago, we decided to evolve the business and started doing a mix of own-brand products as well as distributing various A-brands, and it’s been a huge success for us.”
The numbers prove him right. KMS’ year-on-year sales have grown about 25 per cent in revenue in 2012, with a turnover of around 50 million.
Bland attributes this to a number of factors. KMS has doubled the size of its premises, has a new state of the art office, and also expanded its sales, marketing, accounting and logistics teams.
In 2012, it launched Versus and CnM. Within six months they had climbed up GfK’s sales charts to become the sixth and seventh highest-selling tablet brands.
Bland said: “We expect that we’ll soon be the fourth and fifth largest brands in the UK, and probably combined the third or fourth largest brand, which is an amazing achievement.
“It shows you don’t have to be a big blue chip corporation to get into the market if you have a great product. Our products have a lot of pre-release testing, they’re high quality, have a low return rate and functionality is extremely good.”
Bland continued: “We’ve got a brand new range coming out in January. There will be a mix of dual-core products, and quad-core products with retina display. We will strive to continue to do what we do today and be priced at 40-50 per cent lower than the like of Apple.”
The firm also has a successful audio range, with entry-level portable speakers and a new range of soundbars.
KMS is planning to keep on developing its consumer electronics offering, and has also been doing well with other sectors including CCTV. Interested retailers are invited to get in touch.
