Acquisition will give Belkin 30 per cent market share

Belkin to buy Linksys from Cisco

Belkin has announced its intent to buy Cisco’s home networking division, Linksys.

The acquisition will include all of Linksys products, technology, brand and employees, and once the transaction closes, the deal will give Belkin control of 30 per cent of the US home and small office networking market.

Belkin also expects the deal to give it a strong platform to lead marketing across the networking market, making it the most prominent brand combination in the minds of customers.

“There are some powerful business opportunities as a result of this move. We believe it will grow revenue and profitability for the combined entity’s retail partners,” read the official statement from Belkin.

“By combining the No. 2 and No. 3 U.S. home networking brands, Belkin will have an additional centerpiece and foundation for the home automation demands in the marketplace. Belkin routers are strongly positioned in the everyday and affordable segment. With Linksys, the company can now offer a robust presence within each relevant price band and/or technology segment.”

The deal will close next month.
