Intel has announced plans to wind down its desktop motherboard division over the next three years.
The firm said it would continue to supply desktop chipsets to be used by third party manufacturers such as Asus and ASRock, but will no longer produce and sell its own desktop mITX/mATX/ATX designs after 2013.
Intel will stop developing desktop motherboards after it has completed the launch of its Haswell range.
With news earlier this month that PC sales are in decline for the first time in five years, it is not a total surprise that Intel has decided to wind down its desktop motherboard division and focus on other areas of the technology market.
