The US firm has recruited Kristin Paget to aid its security research as protection risks continue to mount.
Whilst Apple devices were once thought to be immune to most virus and online threats, with both a growing user base and the emergence of the cloud, the firm has had to strongly consider the risks.
The hire of Paget as a Core OS Security Researcher is a sign that Apple is taking security seriously.
Formerly of both eBay and Google, Paget is best known for her work with Microsoft, where she worked as a security researcher at IOActive.
During the stint, her work not only showed up Microsoft engineers working on Vista who believed their coding to be secure, but ultimately delayed the release of the operating system in order to get its security up to scratch.
Apple reportedly began recruiting Paget back in September, whilst the firm’s latest iPhone and iPad products were grabbing the headlines – and everyone’s attention.
Considering Vista’s success of avoiding the majority of malware and virus threats that Windows XP suffered from, it would seem that the hire is a very positive one for Apple.
