Software pioneer goes missing but police say they don’t have him

Rumour: John McAfee may have been captured

The tale of John McAfee’s life on the run has taken a strange turn as conflicting reports have emerged as to whether or not he’s been captured.

According to the administrators of McAfee’s blog, they received an anonymous phone message saying that the eccentric software guru had been captured on the Mexico-Belize border. McAfee himself appears to have gone missing but there has been no further contact from the anonymous caller.

However, the Belize authorities have denied holding McAfee, simply saying that “he is not in police custody”.

McAfee has been on the run since his neighbour, Gregory Faull, was found dead from a single gunshot wound. Local police claim that McAfee committed the murder after an ongoing feud with Faull over the constant barking of Mr. McAfee’s dogs, four of which were found poisoned shortly before the shooting.

McAfee, on the other hand, claims that the murder is a set up due to his refusal to donate money to a national politician. He claims that he will be summarily executed if captured and has said: “I will certainly not turn myself in, and I will certainly not quit fighting. I will not stop my blog.”
