Yang Yuanqing believes the consumer "emotional attachment" to devices such as the iPad is faltering.

Lenovo CEO: ‘Convertible PCs will overtake iPad-like tablets’

Consumers will soon switch from entertainment-focused devices such as the iPad to multi-functional convertible PCs, believes Lenovo’s CEO.

Yang Yuanqing made the comments during a conference call on Thursday, stating that users will soon look for more versatile, multi-functional devices, replacing the demand for Apple’s traditional tablets, which are focused primarily on entertainment.

The admission serves as little surprise considering Lenovo recently took the title of the world’s leading PC maker.

Yuanging offered the suggestion during the call that consumers would make the leap to convertible PCs, such as the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga, which also offers Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows 8.

The CEO also highlighted that the consumer "emotional attachment" to devices such as the iPad was diminishing, which he believed to have been made evident by the "competitor’s recent earnings announcement".

Whilst lacking confirmation, it is highly believed that Yuanging was referring to Apple’s failure to meet Wall Street expectations for iPad sales.

He continued to question why consumers would choose to buy a tablet when they have the option of more power the familiarity of a standard keyboard and operating system that comes with a convertible device, which still offers the touchscreen capabilities made popular by tablet devices.

"I still believe that the Yoga type of convertible is more useable, more user-friendly. Definitely, that’s the better product. That will be the future of the PC," said Yuanging.
