Microsoft, in conjunction with the British Government, has launched a scheme to help 300,000 young people gain skills for employment.
The programme, called Get On, aims to improve the IT skills of around 6,000 young people through direct training and help a further 30,000 gain job specific skills via online resources.
Meanwhile pre-apprenticeship training will be offered to 10,000 people while academic institutions will teach ‘future-ready’ IT skills to a further 220,000 students.
“In these difficult economic times, the best investment we can make is in our young people, to help them develop the skills and creativity they need to create our economic and social future,” said Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer.
“As part of our recently announced global companywide commitment to youth – Microsoft YouthSpark – our ‘Get On’ programme in the UK will connect young people with opportunities for education, employment and entrepreneurship so they can develop the confidence and skills required to compete in a global market and build a rewarding career.”
