Dixons CEO looks forward to Comet employees joining 'the family'

PC World and Currys to offer Comet staff up to 2,000 jobs over Christmas

Sebastian James, group CEO of Dixons Retail, has told Radio 5 Live this morning that the firm hopes to offer Comet staff around 2,000 jobs over Christmas.

Comet, which went into administration last week, is currently still trading, but its 7,000 employees all risk losing their jobs before the holidays.

Dixons is currently hiring seasonal staff for its PC World and Currys stores and hoping to hire some of the Comet staff now looking for work.

James (pictured) commented: "Comet has been a been a noble competitor for a long time. We’re delighted to be able to offer jobs to some Comet staff this Christmas, and we hope as many people as possible can have a chance to be a part of our family.

"We’re taking on, this Christmas, about 3,000 people in all, including around about 2,000 staff for stores. We’ll see how that pans out, but we hope to keep some people in the long term."

He also commented that Dixons was unlikely to rescue any Comet shops "We’re on most of the same retail parks, so we’re not in a position to buy stores."

Comet staff eager to work for Dixons were encouraged to look at the Dixons Careers website.
