Consumer electronics distributor Widget UK has acquired a majority stake in NOW Mobile BV, a Netherlands distribution firm.
NOW Mobile will be managed initially by Bart Hoorntje, a Dutch national, in addition to his current UK responsibilities at Widget.
The acquisition will give Widget a platform to service the Benelux markets with its current portfolio of products, including Orbitsound, Fitbit and Sphero.
Widget chairman Mark Needham commented: “It is important for us to broaden our sales channels, both in the UK and overseas, and the acquisition of Now Mobile BV is a key step for us. Bart has been with us for a long time, and he is the perfect person to get our new subsidiary off the ground.”
NOW Mobile BV has been a significant player in the Netherlands for several years, building up its business distributing Palm hand-held computers and Flip video cameras.
