After losing its appeal against the recent UK ruling that Samsung did not copy the iPad’s design, Apple has published its apology…if you can call it that.
Back in July, Samsung won its case against Apple over the design of the Galaxy Tab 10. Apple appealed the verdict, which required the company to run adverts proclaiming that Samsung did not copy the iPad.
It has now posted the apology on its UK site, in which it focuses on the fact that the judge ruled Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10 was ‘not as cool’ as the iPad.
“The design looks like an object the informed user would want to pick up and hold. It is an understated, smooth and simple product. It is a cool design," reads a quote from the judge on Apple’s site.
Talking about the Galaxy tablets the judges comment continues: “They do not have the same understated and extreme simplicity which is possessed by the Apple design. They are not as cool."
Although Apple states in the apology that there is no injunction in respect of the registered design in force anywhere in Europe, the tech giant couldn’t resist pointing out that a German court came to a different conclusion regarding the same patent.
The statement finishes with: “So while the U.K. court did not find Samsung guilty of infringement, other courts have recognised that in the course of creating its Galaxy tablet, Samsung wilfully copied Apple’s far more popular iPad.”
