Apple iPad Mini event: Rumour roundup

Apple will be hosting an event at 6pm GMT today, where it is widely expected to unveil the iPad Mini. Here’s a roundup of the most talked about rumours surrounding the event.

iPad Mini

Although everyone is dubbing this event the ‘iPad Mini’ event, (and it seems almost a fact that the device is in production), there’s been no actual confirmation that the iPad Mini is going to be announced today…Although the invite’s headline ‘We’ve got a little more to show you’, doesn’t leave too much to the imagination.

The iPad Mini is expected to have a 7.85-inch screen, which does not have Retina display, and an A5 processor, rather than the A6 chip featured in Apples latest gadgets.

It is likely that the new device will have at least 8GB of on-board memory. This would put it in line with Kindle Fire and Google Nexus 7.

As for price, rumours have varied a lot, but most seem to settle at around the $250 mark, which would make it a little more expensive than its competitors.

As well as the iPad Mini, there have been rumours surrounding updates to other Apple devices.

‘New’ New iPad

Just to make life that tiny bit more difficult, Apple could release a ‘new’ version of the ‘New’ iPad, swapping the old connector dock for the flashy ‘new’ lightning port featured on the iPhone 5.

New MacBook Pro, Mac mini and iMac ranges

Photos found in a thread on the forum of Chinese site WeiPhone.com allegedly show a ‘redesigned’ model of Apple’s iMac line. The post implies that the new iMac will have a thinner profile with a shell design that’s curved like a water droplet rather than squared off.

There is expected to be a 13-inch MacBook Pro featuring Retina display and a number of updates to Apple’s Mac mini computer.
