Dixons will service returns, repairs, and other agreements through these existing channels

Dixons closes its website today after six years of trading online

The electrical retailer has closed Dixons.co.uk in a bid to ‘streamline’ its online presence.

After reporting a seven per cent increase in like-for-like sales for Q1 in the UK and Ireland, the group has decided that there is no need for Dixons.co.uk when its has the Currys and PC World sites.

So what does this mean for those who use Dixons.co.uk?

Well, the Currys and PC World websites are getting a revamp today, and Dixons will be able to service returns, repairs, and other agreements through these existing channels.

The new sites will also be able to automatically adapt to whatever device shoppers are currently browsing on. This ties in with the idea that most customers are shopping ‘multichannel’ these days and mixing online and in-store shopping.

"It’s how customers shop," stated Dixons spokesman Mark Webb. "70 per cent of shoppers that come into a store to buy have looked the product up online first."

Gone are the days when we would shop around in-store then wait to get home to the PC to check out the online prices. Consumers are on their smartphones whilst in-store, comparing prices and looking for the best way to purchase products. Dixons reported that its multichannel sales in the UK and Ireland were up 48 per cent in Q1 so it’s no surprise that it is looking to streamline its online presence and grow on this success.

This move is further proof that It is more important than ever these days to have a strong online presence, and to make things as easy as possible for consumers to find your business and buy your products.

Dixons Retail rebranded Dixons’ high-street shops ‘Currys.Digital’ back in 2006, and as of today Dixons.co.uk is no more, but the Dixons name isn’t completely gone forever. Dixons Travel stores in airports will continue to operate as well as the group keeping Dixons Retail as its plc name.
