Electronics retailer Maplin has hired Oliver Meakin as its new commercial director.
Meakin has a strong background in retail, previously working at Somerfield as strategy, business development and business systems director. He has most recently been a director at restaurant group Miller & Carter.
This move appears to be part of a general shake-up of Maplin’s head office staff that’s taken place over the last twelve months. MD Dave Whittle left the firm last month, while new blood has also come in the form of Ryan Thomas from Comet, who looks after Maplin’s multi-channel approach; chief executive John Cleland, formerly Somerfield’s MD, who joined in March; and finally chairman John Lovering, who joined (also from Somerfield) at the end of 2011.
