Apple picked up two awards at last night’s British Design & Arts Direction Awards in London.
Apple’s senior vice president Sir Jony Ive was there, along with 15 other Apple employees, to accept the awards.
The US tech giant was named ‘best design studio in the last 50 years’ and ‘most awarded brand in the last 50 years’. Attendees at the bash gave Sir Jony a standing ovation as he accepted the awards.
The D&AD Awards are widely regarded as the Oscars of design and advertising. Lifetime achievement awards were given in eight categories to the businesses and people that have won the most D&AD Pencils during the organisation’s 50-year history.
The fact that Apple, which usually shuns public appearances, sent its design team demonstrates the gravity of the awards, especially given that the iPhone 5 goes on sale on Thursday.
Sir Jony attended the party along with a who’s who of the creative industry, including Sir John Hegarty, Lord Puttnam, Alan Parker, Sir Frank Lowe, Bob Gill, Derek Birdsall and Sir Paul Smith.
