Apple is suing a Polish online supermarket in a bid to block the use of its online domain name, A.pl.
According to Telepolis, Apple has submitted a request to the Polish Patent Office that it cancel A.pl’s trademark, as well as objecting to its registration in the first place. An appeals process is predicted to be brought before the Warsaw Regional Administrative Court – a process that is likely to drag on for years.
“The Apple brand is widely recognised and the company says that A.pl, by using the name that sounds similar, is using Apple’s reputation,” said a patent office spokesman.
However, the complaint was rejected by A.pl’s chief executive Radoslaw Celinski, who said: “The accusation is ludicrous.”
