We take a look at what happened in the world of IT over the weekend.
This weekend saw OnLive go bankrupt, Steam reveal a big update, Motorola jump on the ‘lets sue Apple’ bandwagon, and the end of this year’s Gamescom.
OnLive on the brink of bankruptcy
OnLive fired its staff and filed for Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors status (ABC), a bankruptcy-like process which lets the company wind down its current structure and turn itself into a new corporate entity.
Two days later OnLive announced that its services will continue without interruption thanks to investment firm Lauder Partners, which will create a new company taking on all of OnLive’s assets.
Google’s Motorola unit files patent lawsuit against Apple
Motorola’s lawsuit seeks to block Apple from importing the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and various Apple computers.
There has been a long series of disputes between Motorola/Google and Apple, but this is the first time Motorola has filed one of these lawsuits since its acquisition by Google.
Steam to debut Big Picture beta in September
Valve has announced that it will launch the beta for Big Picture in September, meaning Steam users will be able to use their televisions to play games.
"In early September you’ll be able to hop into a beta, click a button, and see Steam reformatted for your TV and usable with a PC game controller, or a mouse and keyboard if you want to play that way," said Valve’s Greg Coomer.
Gamescom 2012 sees biggest crowd ever
The fourth edition of Gamescom ended on Sunday, and the event had more than 275,000 visitors.
This number included 24,500 trade visitors from 83 countries, that’s an attendance increase of 14 per cent compared to last year.
Gamescom also saw more exhibitors than in previous years – 600 in total, which is an 8 per cent increase on last year.
