Square Enix to bring Final Fantasy III to Ouya Android console

Kickstarter-funded Ouya receives backing from one of the world’s biggest video games developers.

Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy III will be a launch title for the Android-based console.

This will be the first time gamers outside of Japan can play Final Fantasy III on their televisions through the console.

“Hironobu Sakaguchi’s third instalment in the role playing game franchise will be updated to exploit Ouya’s high-definition resolution in glorious graphic detail,” said creator Julie Uhrman on the Ouya Kickstarter page.

Ouya is a hacker’s paradise, its Kickstarter page states that: “It’s easy to root (and rooting won’t void your warranty). Everything opens with standard screws. Hardware hackers can create their own peripherals, and connect via USB or Bluetooth.”

As well as huge games developers being on board, the console also focuses on indie developers, as every Ouya console is a dev kit and there’s no need to purchase a license. “You can create the next big title in your bedroom – just like the good old days,” boasts the Kickstarter page.

Roughly the size of a Rubik’s cube, Ouya features a Tegra3 quad-core processor, 8GB of Flash memory, 1GB RAM, Bluetooth connectivity, and an HDMI TV connection. It also includes support for up to 1080p HD.
