Microsoft will drop the Hotmail brand after 14 years and integrate social media sites into its free webmail service.
Hotmail is getting a makeover, complete with a new message sorting system, Skype compatibility and the new name Outlook.com.
Intending to solve the problem of the ‘cluttered inbox’, Microsoft will implement an automatic message sorting system which will put messages into different areas to distinguish between emails from contacts, social network notifications, newsletters and other identifiers determined by the account holder.
The new email service will be connected to Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Google and eventually Skype, enabling users to make internet calls.
Outlook.com will link up with Microsoft’s Skydrive cloud storage, allowing users to send photos and other documents via the service, meaning no more attachment size limit.
Hotmail users who want to upgrade to the Outlook.com preview can do so now with just a click of the upgrade button in the options menu of Hotmail.
