The man behind the Twitter account spoofing a senior executive of the Daily Mail and General Trust has been accused of hacking into an email account.
Northcliffe Media has filed court papers in the US accusing the @UnSteveDorkland account holder of email hacking as well as impersonation and defamation.
Northcliffe Media claims that the person behind @UnSteveDorkland, a spoof account of its chief executive Steve Auckland, hacked into company computers.
The company also accused the account owner of posting information apparently obtained from surveillance of Northcliffe Media employees, as well as engaging in other fraudulent and defamatory activity.
The company states that Northcliffe employees mentioned in the tweets were caused to fear for their safety.
Northcliffe took the case to California because that’s where Twitter is based, and the media firm is demanding a jury trial.
@UnSteveDorkland has until tomorrow to object to a motion from Northcliffe demanding that Twitter reveal his identity.
