Uniloc dishes out yet another patent violation accusation

Minecraft creator Mojang sued over Uniloc patent

Uniloc claims Mojang along with other companies have violated a patent that covers the way users are authorised to play games via a phone.

Mojang is just one of ten companies that have been named in the lawsuit. Electronic Arts, GameLoft and Square Enix are all coming under fire for allegedly violating the patent.

Mojang founder Markus Persson said he would ‘throw piles of money’ into the legal fight against the claim.

Uniloc claims that the version of Minecraft for Android mobile phones violates its patented technology, which checks that a person wanting to play a game has the right to do so.

Known for being aggressive in defending its claims to many patents, in the past Uniloc has sued many firms including Microsoft, in which an eight-year court case ensued. The case ended in early 2012 when Microsoft settled out of court.
