Chinese PC giant sets new record in market share

Lenovo CEO gives away $3 million to lower-paid staff

Lenovo boss Yang Yuanqing has distributed $3 million (£1.9m) of his annual bonus to production line workers, receptionists and call centre workers.

Setting a new record in market share, Lenovo had a bumper fiscal year 2011/2012 with net profits up 73 per cent from the previous year.

Although Lenovo has been tight-lipped on the specifics, CNN has reported that around 10,000 junior employees received a 2,000-yuan (£200) bonus each.

This bonus works out as slightly less than a month’s salary for many of the workers in China’s technology manufacturing plants.
