Cyber criminals target Chinese Android users

TrustGo warns of new Android malware MMarketPay.A

The new malware has infected over 100,000 devices so far.

Last week security researchers TrustGo discovered the MMarketPay.A Trojan, which can download paid apps and contents from China Mobile’s Mobile Market.

So far, the malware has been placed in nine different third part Android app markets in China. Experts are warning users to only download Android apps from trusted app stores and recommend having a security scanner installed on devices.

Once the Trojan is downloaded onto an Android device it can automatically place orders for paid content and apps without informing the user. It has also been reported that it can even fill in CAPTCHA’s.

TrustGo has published the malware’s repackaged application names along with the current list of infected app markets, the list can be found here.
