EA announced at its E3 press conference today that iconic game SimCity will reach PC gamers by February 2013.
It will be available through physical retail channels, as well as its own Origin download service.
On the surface at least, it looks as though the game won’t differ too much from previous iterations – in probably a clever move from EA – but player actions will now be able to affect Sims in neighbouring cities as well as their own.
As before there’s a ‘constructable world’, but it’s possible to mould your city more specifically to your own area of interest – such as a casino resort, manufacturing hub, educational enclave and so on.
For the first time, it’s possible to play multiplayer and build a region with friends, as well as collaborate or compete in regional and global challenges.
A new social game from the firm – SimCity Social – will reach Facebook rather sooner than the PC game – within the next month, in fact.
"It is a SimCity for everyone," said Maxis boss Lucy Bradshaw. You can thank her when your Facebook wall starts filling up with hundreds of games requests.
