Microsoft’s latest operating system expected to go on sale in the autumn

Microsoft launches new preview of Windows 8

Microsoft has made a release preview of its new Windows 8 operating system available for download.

This new preview includes features that are currently unavailable in the consumer preview that was released back in February.

Microsoft is calling its latest operating system ‘the most important redesign since Windows 95’. It has been designed to bring Windows into the touchscreen era with its Metro interface specifically designed for touch gesture controls.

Windows 8 will also feature Internet Explorer 10, new apps for the Bing search engine, and improvements to the mail and photo applications. And for the first time ever, there will be no Start menu button at the bottom of the screen.

Consumers can download the release preview of Windows 8 here.

PCR reported earlier this week that Microsoft would be running a $15 upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for customers who purchase a Windows 7 PC from June 2nd. This offer will run until January 31st 2013.
