A single cable provides dual DVI, gigabit ethernet, audio and five more USB ports.

Lenovo’s ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock

Lenovo has launched a laptop dock called the ThinkPad Laptop USB 3.0 Dock which provides provide external graphics, gigabit Ethernet and audio.

With just a single high-speed USB 3.0 port, a laptop connected to the industrial-looking ThinkPad Laptop USB 3.0 Dock uses the DisplayLink DL-3900 Dual Head Graphics chip to provide dual DVI output ports.

In addition to the video, gigabit Ethernet and audio inputs and outputs, the dock also provides an additional five USB 3.0 ports. Given that all that’s needed to plug into the device is a single cable, the dock seems to be universally useful for the slew of recent ultrathin notebooks that are somewhat light on ports but have one of the new high-speed USB 3.0 ports.

The ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock will go on sale worldwide on the 15th of May and has a US recommended price of US$180. As usual there was no European pricing announced. It’ll be more.
