O2 to launch free WiFi in Costa coffee

Mobile network operator O2 is to launch free WiFi access in the Costa chain of coffee shops, or at least half an hour of it.

The deployment has already begun in London and will continue throughout the year. Access will be free but it’ll still require signing up to the service in order to use it.

"As people spend around half an hour in our stores, we are delighted to be partnering with O2 and providing our customers with 30 minutes of free WiFi," said Costa marketing chief Kevin Hydes.

The coffee seller will offer unlimited access to punters signing up to Costa’s Coffee Club loyalty scheme. It seems that the log-in will also work in other O2 WiFi hotspots. The company has plans to install an additional 3,000 of them this year.
