Arrives a week earlier than expected as the etailer says demand has exceeded expectations.

Amazon launches Kindle Touch 3G in UK

Amazon announced that the world’s largest etailer had begun shipping Kindle Touch 3G devices in the UK a week early with orders exceeding expectations.

The touch version of Amazon’s Kindle e-reader has been available for some time in the US but now the company has begun shipping the device Amazon calls the most full-featured e-reader available" in over 175 countries including Europe.

"Orders from customers worldwide for our new line of electronic ink Kindles have exceeded our expectations," said Amazon Kindle chief Dave Limp. "We know that customers are eager to get their hands on our newest Kindle which is why we’re delighted to be able to ship several days earlier than we planned," Limp added.

Pre-orders for the Kindle Touch 3G are being fulfilled in the order that they were received. The announcement appears to relate to the pricier £169 3G version of the e-reader and not the base WiFi only £109 model which presumably will arrive in around a week.

Amazon’s 3G-equipped version doesn’t cost punters any extra with the bookseller sending bought books directly to the device free of charge. Unless you’re sending something that isn’t bought from them, in which case it’ll cost you.
