Lenovo could be the first company to launch a Windows 8 tablet with the tablet prepared for release by October according to a source cited by The Verge.
A number of firms have been put in the frame for building Windows 8 ‘slates’, including Asus, HP and even mobile giant Nokia. However Chinese manufacturer Lenovo appears to believe they’ll be first to the market.
No specifications are available but it’s very likely the tablet will be based on Intel’s latest Ivy Bridge mobile processor. Some hints might be taken from devices that Lenovo showed off at CES.
Once such Windows 8 device Lenovo showed off at the January show included a 13.3-inch hybrid ultrabook with a touch screen called the IdeaPad Yoga 13 (pictured). The firm said the Yoga 13 was slated for arrival when Windows 8 launches.
Of course an actual Windows 8 slate would probably be smaller than that unless the smartphone supersize disease is coming to tablets too.
The Lenovo tablet would be, we take from the report, based on the x86 version of Windows 8 and not the so-called Windows on Arm variant.
