London Underground to get free WiFi

The London Underground is set to launch free WiFi throughout the Olympic Games as Transport for London inks a deal with Virgin Media to deliver the service.

"Millions of passengers will now be able to connect to their work, friends or access the latest news and travel information whilst on the move," said the London Mayor Boris Johnson.

Johnson said the service which will cover more than 80 stations would go live in July, rising to 120 stations by the end of the year. Virgin successfully won the contract ahead of rival Sky.

The WiFi service will only be present in underground stations rather than on the trains themselves. So good for checking your email while waiting on a platform but you’re still going to need a good book for the journey itself.
