Would-be tablet buyers in Blighty will need to wait two to three weeks to get one.

iPad 3 pre-orders sold out

Apple’s third generation iPad is now sold out for Friday-delivery preorders with the iPhone maker describing demand as ‘off the charts’.

The stock that Apple had available for pre-orders has now been sold, the company said, meaning any further orders will not be getting a new tablet this Friday the 16th.

Instead the Apple website will offer an estimated ship date and so far at least the delay in the US seems fairly minimal right now with some Stateside punters told Monday the 19th.

Europeans, on the other hand, will need to wait until new shipments arrive from Apple’s feverishly cranking Chinese factories with delays pegged between two and three weeks.

Apple is also limiting order quantities to two iPad 3s per order.
