As we head towards the big VIP dealer event on Wednesday May 2nd, PCR speaks to the sponsors of PCR Retail Boot Camp.

Here PCR talks to Platinum Partner G Data’s UK channel sales manager James Coombes about his company’s plans for the conference & expo, and beyond…

How important is it for the UK PC industry to have a dedicated event for retailers?
Very. As a German company, events such as the PC Retail Boot Camp provide opportunities for us to meet retailers and gain valuable feedback about how our offering in the UK can be improved.

What do you see being the key issues facing PC retailers in 2012?
The increasing demands of both online and High Street shoppers. Online commerce will continue to grow and PC retailers must ensure they are ahead of the curve. But retailers must not neglect the demand that still exists on the High Street.

What products/services will you be promoting at the event this year?
The G Data 2013 generation product range will be showcased at the event, as well as G Data BankGuard, a pioneering technology that protects against online banking Trojans.

Why should retailers look out for the G Data stand at the PCR Retail Boot Camp?
I will be on-hand to discuss any questions about G Data and the new 2013 product range.

What are your projections for 2012?
2012 is set to be a busy year for G Data. With the increasing dominance of the internet in everyday life, cyber crime is rising at an alarming rate, in both consumer and corporate spheres. Developments in mobile technology in particular mean we are going to see more products and solutions aimed at protecting mobile devices. We will continue to develop and pioneer technologies such as G Data BankGuard and G Data MobileSecurity, which will ensure this increasing demand for securing online identities and credentials.

If there was one thing you would change in the PC/tech industry, what would it be?
The deliberate use of technical language without explanation when speaking to consumers. It is easy to forget that the everyday person on the street or browsing the Internet for technological goods is not going to comprehend the industry’s jargon.

What distinguishes you from your competitors?
Firstly, G Data products have top virus detection rates due to unique technologies including DoubleScan (the use of two scan engines rather than one) and OutbreakShield.
Secondly, G Data actually developed the very first antivirus program over 20 years ago, which certainly sets us apart.
Thirdly, G Data offers first-class customer support with a 24/7 hotline. It also has an additional business support number for retailers.
