Boris says the service can help motorists avoid 'nasty snarl ups'.

Transport for London launches traffic map

Transport for London has unveiled a new live traffic news map which they said identifies traffic hotspots and makes congestion easier to avoid.

The map of London displays traffic hotspots as icons and includes the ability to view a network of 170 so-called ‘jam-cams’ as well as other incidents that can affect journey time.

London Mayor Boris Johnson said: "This new service will give motorists and indeed other road users the power to become the eye in the sky and avoid nasty snarl ups."

The data is being made available to software developers so we’d expect a host of rather more mobile-friendly applications will arrive in due course. At least some small respite for those braving the heavy traffic of the capital.
