Distributor intends to go after sales in retail channel

Shepherd to head up VIP’s new retail sales team

UK IT distributor VIP Computers has appointed Alicia Shepherd to head up a newly established retail sales team, with the goal of pursuing sales in the retail channel throughout 2012 and beyond.

Whilst VIP is well known for distribution components, it now intends to make a push – and a name for itself – into branded consumer goods. While the firm has been supplying retail for some years, this new appointment is a serious push in that direction.

Shepherd has 16 years of experience, with Acer and elsewhere within the channel. She commented: “I’m really looking forward to joining the VIP team and spearheading the VIP drive into retail. The key is to be clear to our retail customers and vendor partners exactly what VIPs compelling initiatives are and how these are designed to deliver greater value and superior service against their twin pressures of rising inflation and diminishing discretionary spend.”

VIP’s Dave Stevinson concluded: “Our strategy is to develop relationships with the top 50 technology retailers and the vendors who support them. We are determined to become an important and strategic partner to the retailers and offer them a compelling reason to align with VIP."
