Consumer electronics distributor Widget UK has inked a deal to bring fitness and wellbeing brand Fitbit to the UK.
It’s launching on January 2nd, 2012 with the Fitbit Ultra – an activity tracker that automatically syncs user-information to a personal web profile on Fitbit.com, helping people to monitor and manage daily activity and remain motivated.
David Elder, managing director of Widget UK, said: "The distribution contract we have signed with Fitbit is part of a deliberate strategy to replace the business we had in distributing the Flip Video range.
"Retailers and distributors alike are looking for categories which will grow in 2012, and fitness electronics looks like being a growth category. Fitbit is a product designed for retail which sits in this new category."
Widget is Fitbit’s chosen channel to retailers, and it will wholesale the product to selected launch partners such as Amazon.co.uk, Play.com and Firebox.
The brand is already well-known in the US, where it has sold thousands of trackers since 2010. The firm claims business grew by over 300 per cent
Gareth Jones, VP and European general manager for Fitbit, commented: “Fitbit and Widget are completely aligned in bringing to the UK consumers a proven set of products and services which motivate and support improvements in their health and wellness. Improvements which will result in weight loss, levels of self-worth increasing and reducing the likelihood of suffering chronic diseases. There are personal and corporate benefits to such improvements and Widget is well situation to make our products and services universally available to interested parties.”
