British student admits to hacking Facebook servers

26 year old student Glenn Steven Mangham pleaded guilty to hacking Facebook’s servers which the FBI believed was an attempt at industrial espionage, according to a BBC report.

Facebook told the BBC that the "attack did not involve an attempt to compromise or access user data," which was uncovered in a routine system check despite Mangham’s attempts to cover his tracks.

The defence painted the student as having a "high moral stance" and claimed that when collared by the police he "made a copious admission" to his activities.

Mangham will now be sentenced in February and the court banned him from using the internet as part of his bail conditions.

The Facebook server Mangham broke into was apparently connected with internal tasks such as operating of email lists.
