iPhone 4S plagued by poor battery life, iOS 5 bug suspected

Some owners of Apple’s new iPhone 4S have reported lower than expected battery life with the iOS 5 location services suspected of being the cause.

The flaw may not even be limited to the iPhone 4S with at least some users reporting that the iOS 5 update on the previous iPhone 4 model has also resulted in a reduction in battery life.

iDownload blog suggested that overuse of GPS tracking was to blame as a result of a recently introduced bug.

"It appears that iOS 5’s GM release introduced a bug that causes the Setting Time Zone function to keep the location tracking circuitry running constantly, draining battery power considerably," they said.

Suggesting that the feature should be disabled to fix the issue, some users report an improvement while others claim no effect.
