Many more are removed than the iOS App Store

Over 500,000 apps published on Android Market

Google’s Android Marketplace now has more than 500,000 published apps according to mobile app market intelligence firm research2guidance.

Incredibly 37 per cent were later removed from the market while Apple’s iOS App Store saw 600,000 submissions with 25 per cent of those removed.

"It is likely that the more rigid application submission requirements prevent developers from publishing multiple trial or low quality applications," the company said of the Apple App Store.

"Whereas publishers in the Android Market place a lot of market testing, trials, demo and malware content."

Research2guidance said that Android developers published more apps than iOS developers, averaging six on the Marketplace compared with 4 apps on the iOS platform.

Once the removed apps are taken out of the equation, iOS still leads with around 460,000 apps versus Android’s 320,000.
