Games boost UK retail sales

The latest stats from the Office of National Statistics have surprised everyone by showing that UK retail sales were up slightly in September.

And crucially, the ONS says that video games and laptop sales were the key factor in the 0.6 per cent increase

However, the conclusions offered by ONS are somewhat at odds with the official UK games market figures which show a slight decline of 1.5 per cent in the sector last month.

One conclusion could be that video games suffered a gentler decline than other sectors, effectively increasing its footprint on the overall market.

Indeed, the clothing, textile and footwear sector in particular struggled with a 2.1 per cent dip.
