Apple takes lead in enterprise space as users bring their own devices to work

19 out of 20 business tablets are iPads

Good Technology, which manages data services for enterprises on iOS and Android, concludes that enterprise users have a "clear preference for Apple products."

Well, you can say that again.

The iPhone accounted for 61 per cent of all enterprise smartphone activations in the third quarter of 2011, against Android’s 39 per cent.

In tablets the iPad bagged a 96 per cent share. What a miserable showing for the growing number of Android tablets, whose collective share Good equates to a ’rounding error’.

Nearly half of all iPads are being activated in the financial services sector – presumably to show people how little their pensions are worth.

Other highlights of the research include:

– The number of company phones being handed out to employes fell by 70 per cent
– iOS smartphones (iPhone variants Original, 3G, 3GS, 4), showed a decline month-to-month over Q3. Possibly due to anticipation of iPhone 4S.
– 4G Android devices like the HTC Thunderbolt and HTC Incredible 2 appeared in the top 10 for the first time.
– In Q2 2011, iPad activations eclipsed Android smartphone activations for the first time, but in Q3, Android smartphones rallied to pass iPad activations.
