BlackBerry maker RIM has moved to apologise for the three-day down time which left millions of BlackBerry customers without email and web, offering free applications worth $100.
"We truly appreciate and value our relationship with our customers. We’ve worked hard to earn their trust over the past 12 years, and we’re committed to providing the high standard of reliability they expect, said RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis in a statement.
The RIM boss also posted a YouTube video personally apologising for the down time.
Starting from Wednesday, BlackBerry users can download applications that also include free games such as Sims 3 and productivity apps such as Photo Editor Ultimate.
"We have apologised to our customers and we will work tirelessly to restore their confidence. We are taking immediate and aggressive steps to help prevent something like this from happening again," said Lazaridis.
However YouGov’s brand ‘Buzz’ rating plummeted from 10 to -39. The Buzz rating aims to measure consumer sentiment towards brands and the poll seems to show that the firm has much to do to restore confidence.
Whether free apps will do the trick remains to be seen.
