WH Smith announced that the firm will begin selling the Kobo e-book reader providing access to the Kobo online store with more than 2.2 million ebooks.
In a partnership with Canadian retailer Kobo, WH Smith will sell two Kobo ebook readers, the Wi-Fi enabled Kobo Wireless eReader priced at £89.99 and Kobo eReader Touch priced at £109.99.
Both devices are fitted with 6-inch e-ink screens but the pricier Touch model is lighter at 185gr and offers up to a month of battery life on a single charge and supports a greater range of digital formats including digital comic formats CBZ and CBR.
The Kobo readers are also offered in a range of colours including Blue, Lilac, Silver and Black. Both models also have SD card slots supporting the addition of up to 32GB of storage and enabling the use of third party ebooks.
The launch may be well timed in the UK market given that Amazon has yet to announce UK availability of the newly launched Kindle Touch.
