Daily deal website Groupon believes it can offer PC and technology businesses a way to clear stock and make good profits.
A spokesman told PCR: "Groupon is a great way to clear product lines from inventories while still maintaining a healthy profit, without replacing existing trade.”
IT firm the Stone Group has already used Groupon several times to sell laptops. Daley Robinson, group marketing manager, commented: "Stone is a brand that is widely known with the public sector and educational B2B markets, but not so well known outside of it. The exposure that being associated with Groupon – a marketing behemoth – has brought to us has definitely a positive factor for us."
Groupon concluded: "“This [exposure] puts a company in the spotlight, and is a source of repeat business and word of mouth marketing.”
Of course using daily deal sites like Groupon, KGBdeals or LivingSocial isn’t quite as simple as just picking something you want to sell a bundle of and plonking it online. Retailers have to make careful choices, find products with a good margin, and be prepared for customers who may not necessarily stick around for repeat purchases.
