Storage specialist OCZ has unveiled a hybrid PCI-Express SSD hard drive which mates an SSD drive with an on board hard drive.
The OCZ RevoDrive Hybrid pairs a 100GB SSD with a 1TB HD for 1.1TB of total capacity costing an estimated $499. The drive relies on Dataplex caching software to dynamically manage the use of the 100GB SSD with the 1TB HDD.
"This combination creates an environment where the most frequently used "hot" data stays on the ultra-fast SSD, while the "cold" data remains on the larger capacity HDD," OCZ said of the RevoDrive Hybrid.
As a PCI-E device, the RevoDrive Hybrid breaks free of the SATA bandwidth bottleneck to achieve a rated transfer speed of 910MB/s and up to 120,000 IOPS.
The OCZ RevoDrive Hybrid is being offered with a 3 year warranty.
